At Pacific Birth Collective, we know that pregnancy, birth, and early parenting are some of the most powerful and vulnerable times in life. For many ‘ohana in Hawaiʻi, especially in places like East Maui and Molokaʻi, getting the care and support you need during this time can be hard. The hospital is far away, transportation is a challenge, and the kind of care being offered doesn’t always match the values or cultural practices of our communities.
That’s why we’re launching a new mobile perinatal program in August 2025: to bring respectful, culturally grounded care directly to where families live, gather, and feel supported.
This program is rural communities, especially for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander ‘ohana with pregnant people, new parents, babies, and young children in Maui County. We know our communities have faced real struggles, like higher rates of pregnancy complications, not enough mental health support, and a loss of connection to traditional practices around birthing and healing. We also know that our strength comes from our people, our land, and our ʻohana. So we’re building a program rooted in those strengths.
Every month for one year, our team will visit East Maui and Molokaʻi to offer:
We’ll meet in places that feel good and are easy to access, like community centers, outdoor spaces, and trusted local spots. This way, families don’t have to travel far or sit in medical offices to get help. We’re coming to you, with care that honors your story and culture.
This work is personal for us. Many of us at Pacific Birth Collective were born and raised in Hawaiʻi. We carry the teachings of our kūpuna, and we’ve seen how healing happens when care is offered with aloha, patience, and understanding. We’re committed to being culturally accountable: listening deeply, working alongside community leaders, and continuing to learn as we go.
We hope this program will help:
Throughout the year, we’ll be asking for feedback, sharing stories, and tracking how the program is helping families feel more supported and connected. Our goal is simple: to bring back the kind of care that has always existed in our islands—care rooted in culture, guided by community, and passed on to the next generation.
If you’re in East Maui or Molokaʻi and want to get involved, learn more, or receive services, reach out to us. We’re here, and we’re coming to you.
